Hi my name is Shelley Lynn Harle, I’m 47 years old and have been in business for 19 years with my hair and beauty salon in Silksworth Sunderland
I married Rob in 2007 and we have a son Jordan who is getting married to Carla in 2021 and they have given us 2 grandsons aged 2 and 6.
In 2018 I decided to have a craft day to raise money for Mind for better mental health. It was only a couple of hours with cake and coffee to buy and to show off my passion of making things with craft.
I have always been interested in knitting and wanted to learn to crochet but all the craft groups that were held locally, were run when I was at work. So with my shop being closed on a Tuesday, I decided to start my own “knitting and natter” group up and to see if any other people would be interested.
In just two weeks of advertising, I had 20 people wanting to come to the group! It was then I decided to open a small wool section in my salon and from doing this I noticed that I was selling wool very fast. So when lockdown happened due to Covid 19 and I couldn’t do my hair and beauty side of the business, I started a Facebook page called @FrasersWool for the wool and from that moment onwards it has taken to the sky .
I decided to take the plunge and had one of my beauty rooms knocked down to make my front shop bigger. From that moment I knew I was doing the right thing. I got in touch with 2 wholesalers and now I’m now a stockist of Stylecraft and Cygnet Yarn and my wool shop has and is growing from strength to strength.
I then had a friend show me how to make a very basic granny square and from that moment I was hooked as to say.
The knitting group has taken off brilliantly and we do a lot of charity work for Alzheimers. We make twiddle muffs and blankets that then get taken to the local home and handed out to the residents.
And now we are making things easier for people to find us and able to buy direct from ourselves with our new website.
So a big warm welcome to Fraser’s Wool, come on over to my Facebook group – Frasers Craft Group and say hi and share whatever project you are working on right now
Really helpful, smashing stock of yarn.
Even picked up a little Christmas present for a friend
